Each one builds on the others. The Korean has the best over all but the end bugged me but the mother is amazing! The first season of the Japanese rocked and so did the movie but the second season was a chore to watch except a few episodes. Meteor Garden is hard to compare because it was so much earlier than the others.
Although i liked the fact that it was simple and stuck only to the main story line. If i had to recommend only one to watch it would be the Korean.
It is a hard decision because Matsujun is so hot! I like both the Japanese and the Korean version, although after watching Hana Yori Dango, it was hrd to stay interested in Boys over flowers at first, but i stuck to it and it was worth it. Boys Over Flowers! Lee Min Ho forever! I love HYD! Meteor Garden Taiwanese is too long to watch that it becomes tiresome at times. Their locations are so-so. I love everything about this series. Boys Before Flowers Korean have the best-looking F4 ever!!!
All of them are just too cute for words. However, I do not agree with all that crap of him being afraid of insects and swimming, that was definitely not in the original one and somehow it felt odd that a man of such power would be afraid of swimming.
Come on you Korean Script writers! Step up your game! However, compared to the anime version. He still loses. In my opinion, if they needed a tall, muscular and tanned man for the job. He has played two action movie roles in America and even got himself up in the the Time Magazine for being in the top of the most influential people in the world. Of course, no where near the wealth of Tsukasa but still In that role he was very egoistical as well. Especially since everyone in the Korean adaption looked way too old to still be in high school.
Hanazawa Rui Anime : Hanazawa Rui is the silent type. Though things get slightly out of hand. Talk about being fancy. After awhile, I kind of …. No one can compete. He IS Hanazawa Rui. That long hair, with the long fringe and urgh…. It was… fake. However, he just looked like a very tacky mess in this one.
Oguri Shun filled the physical criteria completely. He was tall, and very relaxed. Of course, I fell in love with him. Who cares if I was eight? After doing some research, I have come to realise that Oguri Shun is just that silent, tall and slightly adorable type. Because he brought this personality with him when he acted in the Hana Kimi Drama.
For me. Unlike the Korean adaptation, he definitely pulled off the brown hair. And to top it off, he looked comfortable with the violin. Definitely not out of place. I also like how Oguri Shun brought certain qualities to Hanazawa Rui. Not to mention, he saved her getting raped like three times. Does he have a radar that goes off every time or something? How does he move so fast from one place to another so quickly? He was definitely the man that conveyed what the audience was feeling.
And I really appreciated that. Without him in the picture, I may have very well dropped the JDrama series from all of the misunderstandings and drama. Hanazawa Rui is tired from having to go up against stupid people.
I personally found Daomingsi to be comic relief because the whole time all he had was that stupid expression on that face, whether he was being dumb, angry, happy or sad - it was all the same. The reason why I think he could pull off being stupid was because he literally looked stupid.
Except he looked stupid all the time. Even when he told Shancai he loved her he looked stupid. Even when he was 'angry' and started kissing Shancai and ripping her shirt, he looked stupid. Lei seemed to talk reallyyyyyy slow and Daomingsi well The attraction between Rui and Makino was so looked so much more believable than Shancai and Lei.
Lei looked like he was stoned half the time he was on screen anyway, so it made no difference to the scenes even though Barbie Hsu was good. I was told that the way to judge a good drama is the extent of your withdrawal symptoms. MG I watched it first was superb. But for real, if amnesia could just never ever be a plot device EVER, that would be great.
I like all three, but I adore the HYD series. I think for me it's that they tell the story in such a complete, but compact way, so I don't find myself skipping through large chunks to get back to a part I like. MG might be stiffer competition if not for the overall length and abysmal second season. I'm like you, I think, because I like my romantic moments to be as believable as the rest of the story and Tdramas do that the best, but they also seem to take twice as long to tell a story.
Go check it out. If you haven't watched it yet, I am recommending it like crazy. I loved it. I haven't watched the TDrama yet so can't comment on that but of the J and Kdrama, I feel that makino was more emotionally invested with tsukasa than Jandi was with Jun pyo. Kdrama portrayed the male lead physically best Jdrama have the life to the character. Also J version was funnier than K version. Thanks for the review! It makes me feel supported that I'm not crazy discussing all versions alone : have you watched the Chinese MG version yet?
I'm now following it but my heart was already taken by HYD J version. Great review! I have started to watch the Kr version again, and I might just continue with the other two, plus na Chinese version.
I super agree with the most tear-jerking moment! I remember myself crying myaelf to sleep with hiccups, because of that scene!!! You also know that the Korean version did not rank highly in my opinion, so my sudden desire to watch it again had me a bit baffled. Here we go! Best Leading Lady? She ended up being a little more fun and carefree than the other two.
Plus, I think Barbie has the best connection with her male counterparts, which leads to a sparkling chemistry. Best Second?
He is absolutely adorable and his chemistry with Barbie makes that show.
