Not bad for a game that's nearly a decade old. According to the comments on the original Reddit post, the Headless Horseman can be spotted trotting along the roads across random parts of Tamriel between 10pm and 4am. The Dragonborn can also find him at the ancient Nordic ruin of Hamvir's Rest via fast-travel, or by following him if they come across the ghoul on their travels. However, a glitch has clearly happened in the original clip, as it's not normal for the Headless Horseman to be frantically flying around the place like Casper the Friendly Ghost.
The identity of Skyrim 's Headless Horseman is unknown, but we're pretty sure it's not Christopher Walken like in the Sleepy Hollow film. Interestingly, the ancient Nordic song 'Ragnar The Read' tells the story of a "braggart" who was killed by the "brave lass Matilda" and "his ugly red head rolled around on the floor". By morning, the Headless Horseman is gone. Skyrim's Headless Horseman doesn't have an attached quest. Is he just an Easter Egg referencing the ghoulish antagonist who menaces Ichabod Crane in Washington Irving's famous short story?
Lots of fans think there's more to it. Lots of fans believe the Headless Horseman might actually be the ghost of Ragnar the Red. Ragnar is the subject of a popular Nordic folk song sung in taverns throughout the game.
He was a hero who liked to brag about his heroics, until a shieldmaiden named Matilda got fed up and decapitated him. There are clues to support this theory. According to the lyrics, Ragnar was riding from Rorikstead to Whiterun.
The Headless Horseman's spawning location varies, but he'll always ride towards Whiterun. Both Ragnar and the ghostly rider in the game are missing their heads. Finally, Ragnar was a Nord, and the game classified the Headless Horseman as a member of the Nordic race. It only takes a minute to sign up. Yup, it's a headless horsemen. He rides pretty fast but I managed to catch up with him. I tried to interact with him but the action wasn't allowed. I followed him for a pretty long while and he seemed to ride in a giant circle I eventually ended up back near Rorikstead. Any idea if this guy is quest related? He is meant to lead you to a graveyard filled with a bunch of skeletons and a locked master chest filled with a few valuable items.
