Mohammed was led by Allah through his miraculous two-part journey during this year on the Gregorian calendar. For those that choose to do so, Isra and Miraj is marked in various ways. After prayers, food is served. The night journey is the ascent of the Prophet Muhammad and the revelation of Salat.
The Prophet travelled from Mecca to Jerusalem in a single night on a strange winged creature called Buraq. From Jerusalem, he ascended into heaven, where he met the earlier prophets, and eventually Allah. The Prophet Muhammad saws met Prophet Adam a. The more we understand, the less we judge. The Prophet saw said, 'It is the land of Resurrection and Congregation. Visit it and pray in it. For indeed, prayer in it is like a thousand prayers in other than it'. He and a handful of followers endured three years of relentless persecution and boycott from the Makkans and he eventually went to Taif to preach his message. There they mocked him and stoned him till bled profusely.
One was his protective uncle Abu Talib, who was his guardian and political protector and the other was Khadijah, his most beloved wife, his confidante, mother of all his children except Ibrahim. She was the first to embrace his faith, the financier of the nascent Islamic movement and Mother of the Faithful. The Israa and Miraj refer to, two parts of a miraculous journey that Prophet Muhammad took in one night from Makka to Jerusalem and then an ascension to the heavens.
According to some of the Hadith scholars this journey is believed to have taken place just over a year before Prophet Muhammad migrated to from Makka to Madina, on the 27th of Rajab. Muslims celebrate this night by offering optional prayers during this night, and in many Muslim countries, by illuminating cities with electric lights and candles. It is a time for people, particularly students, to learn more about Isra and Mi'raj, what it means in Islamic faith, and how it is applied in practice.
There may be some local congestion on roads around major mosques in the evening of the event. Muhammad prayed at the site of the Temple of Solomon with the prophets Abraham, Moses, Jesus and others. The Prophet Muhammad then rose to heaven carried by Gabriel from the rock of the temple mount, where many people believe that the Dome of the Rock sanctuary now stands. Allah instructed Muhammad about the five daily prayers that all Muslims must observe.
