First, i'd like to say that not everything is bad about RE5. Everything looks great, most notably the characters who i'd say are comparable to MGS4's fantastically emotive characters. Also, from the moment he first appears to the bit where he gets syringed in the final fight, Albert Wesker is one of the most perfect character in any video game universe ever. A hulking combination of super powers and smugness, Wesker is not only infinitely hateable but completely formidable.
For anyone who hasn't played CVX , this is the same guy who had a ton of steel girders dropped on his head and shook it off like it was nothing more than a slap in the face. As baddies go, Wesker is one of the best out there. Or, was. The thing which annoyed me the most about RE5 is that as a potentially closing chapter to this part of the Resident Evil franchise, it felt as if it was being written and controlled by someone who had no real idea about the characters or the storyline so far.
The final scene demonstrates this complete lack of character development perfectly. You've got Wesker, the big bad since , dying in a volcano and who is it who kills him? Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. Chris killing him makes sense, after all he was one of the intended victims of the Arklay Mountains outbreak but Sheva's involvement is insulting.
She doesn't even know who Wesker is till halfway through the game. To make matters worse, Jill fucking Valentine, you know, the other main character from the first game as well as a main franchise player, is sitting right next to them in the helicopter willing to just let the man who she chased for years then was captured and experiment on by, be killed by someone else. Is there no desire for revenge in her heart? Not to bog this down too much with comparisons to other media, but it's the equivalent of Agent Smith being killed by some civilian at the end of Matrix Revolutions while Neo sits back and watches.
And that complaint is without even going into detail on how pathetic that end is for Wesker. Getting hit by two rockets in the middle of a volcano seems incredibly impersonal considering the homoerotic rivalry between him and Chris. I know after writing that, someone will bounce into the thread and give me the old 'It's just a video game.
There are millions of fans of the original GTA games. It also evolved with the times. Just like how people are now used to playing FPS on consoles, people are used to playing third person shooters a specific way. And it's not like it's a million light years from the formula. It's not that complicated. So sure you can go on and on in a rant about Playstation fanboys just because people don't like the controls in RE5.
But you're just letting your non-logical fanboy side take control of you. GOT IT!!!!! I just can't stand the controls. Thats also the reason I didn't like RE4 that much. Good game, bad controls. Also it's not that I'm used to shooter controls and that anything different is bad, its just the control effin suck.
Well I tend to disagree. That is funny, I am myself Resident Evil hardcore since first Resident Evil RE came for Playstation and skyrocket popular game since until RE4 broken the tradition by use third person view with full 3D environment with old way of movement on character.
Now, look at RE5 how advanced graphic make look so realistic stuck with old fashion movement which is out of question. Thing will not be same all the time. Sorry HipHop Gamer, I disagree with you. Unless you were referring to the show or gaming site which would be HHGS. I loved the other Resident Evil games because they had a basic idea. Not to get too deep into it, but the script could have been changed up a bit. I have played and loved all the Resident Evil games, but I have no plans of playing this one.
I know people will bash me on here, but having insane looking Africans, acting like savages, was not very responsible. Man, I know Capcom is not racist, but I which they would have mixed things up a bit.
Well, where to start? I don't wish to hammer you for this at all but think nthat Capcom may have been naive when choosing where to take RE5. I also think, with the AIDS epidemic being pretty muddy in it's origins that they can get away with that one could be anywhere really but if you'd used ebola as your example it might have more weight. Personally I think this is being over sensitive and it seems worse now that Capcom have pushed a "united colours of Benetton" settlement on us.
In the middle of nowhere? In the middle of Africa? What we now have a fully integrated multi racial village in the backwoods with no apparent reason for it? I think it makes them look more racist for changing to this unrealistic cultural make up. However, they should have known this kind of thing would get said, hence naive, and I'm sure the changes are well meant but they ruin the immersion as much as bloody Sheva and her woeful AI do.
No, they would prolly have been best leaving Africa out of it altogether purely because of the risk of stuff like this. I do not think they are racist but I do think a western dev would have been more sensitive about this too and not have set it here.

Skizelli d ago The controls aren't outdated. I'm impressed, I expect it to be like 3 agrees and 20 disagrees for putting so much logic into that post, Which clearly does not belong on this site, And I also may have said something negative about Sony in there or forgot to worship Killzone 2 like I should, that's another automatic 10 disagrees or maybe it's the fact that I said something positive about the or at least hinted at it Agree 1 Disagree 6.
Sarcasm d ago Logic? Chubear d ago GordonFreeGin posted I don't get it either TC. If you're gonna hate 5 being a shooter, then they should be mad at 4 too, but they won't. Same with co-op partner Kinda hypocritical if you ask me, but whatever. No, the story in 5 was stupid. Just terrible. Like, why did Wesker change forms? He could have won. The only good part was Chris punching a boulder. RE4 had charming cheese in spades. Plus, Ashley sucked, but she didn't waste items.
And they got rid of great death animations in 5. That's one reason RE4 is unbearable. The 'cheese' isn't charming. Nor should it be trying to be 'charming'. This is supposed to be survival horror. It's not supposed to be a romantic comedy film or anything. The classic games all had their fair share of cheesy dialogue. RE4 is no different. It's RE5 and beyond when the series started getting more serious and less jokesy Whereas RE4 took on a completely pointless adventure to save the President's daughter that had nothing to do with anything.
Leave that to Barry Burton. He does it twenty times better than Leon ever could and with infinitely more machismo. Leon just acts like an obnoxious jackass instead of the likable character he was in RE2.
I thought it was funny when he said your hand comes off. People hate Resident evil 5 but love
